Are you replacing your Toyota Avalon side view mirror? Here's a quick and easy walk-through for replacing your side view mirror on a 2005-2010 Toyota Avalon. In this replacement, there's no need to remove the door panel or deal with complicated wirings.
But before we dive in, here’s a cool piece of trivia: according to MotorWeek, the 2005-2010 Avalon was the first Toyota designed entirely in the U.S. From engineering to assembly, it was built with American roads and drivers in mind.
Now let’s get that mirror installed and your Avalon looking sharp again.
Tools Needed:
10mm socket wrench
Socket extension (recommended)
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Open the front door to access the mirror and interior trim area fully.
2. Carefully pop off the triangular plastic trim piece/interior mirror cover at the door panel's upper corner.
3. Behind the cover, locate the mirror’s electrical connector.
4. Using a socket wrench, completely remove the three 10mm nuts securing the mirror. Hold the mirror with one hand to prevent it from falling.
5. Disconnect the mirror plug, press the release tab on the connector and gently unplug it from the harness.
6. With the nuts and plug removed, carefully pull the old mirror straight off the door.
7. Check the new mirror for weather stripping and remove it from the old mirror if needed. Most mirrors come with the weather stripping pre-installed. If yours doesn’t, gently peel off the rubber seal from the old mirror so you can reuse it.
8. Install the weather stripping on the new mirror. Press the seal firmly onto the new mirror frame so it fits flush and snug.
9. Align the new mirror with the door. Line up the mounting bolts and guide pin with the holes on the door and hold the mirror in place.
10. Reconnect the mirror wiring plug. Plug the connector back into the harness until it clicks securely.
11. Hand-tighten the three 10mm mirror nuts. Thread the nuts onto the bolts by hand to avoid stripping the threads.
12. Use the socket wrench to tighten the nuts. Evenly tighten all three nuts. Do not over-tighten to avoid damaging the studs.
13. Check that the mirror sits flush. Make sure the mirror is aligned properly with no gaps or obstructions.
14. Reinstall the interior mirror cover. Snap the triangular trim piece back into place on the inside of the door.
15. Test the mirror functionality. Turn on the car and use the mirror adjustment controls to verify that everything works correctly.
16. You’re all done! The new mirror is installed and fully functional—clean install, no fuss.
