Those who love off-road adventures would be thrilled to know that the Land Cruiser is back after Toyota decided to stop selling the vehicle in the US. 2021 model was the last. Land Cruisers continued to be available globally. The new 2025 model sports a newer design but continues to be inspired by its previous versions.
The Land Cruiser has been part of the Toyota family since the 1950s. Toyota UK Magazine has a detailed history of the Land Cruiser which you can read more here. It started as a mobility vehicle for Japan’s National Police Reserve in 1951. It was also one of the vehicles used in the Korean War. Around 1955, it transitioned to civilian use which was more spacious and had headlights.
The 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser has an MSRP that starts at $56,450. On the Toyota website, it says that the Land Cruiser sports a “TOYOTA” heritage front grille, square side view mirrors and athletic fender flares. It has two different versions or grades. The first one pays homage to the original FJ25, with round headlights and fabric seats. The second one is inspired by the FJ62, which is more trail-ready tech, has leather-trimmed seating, and rectangular headlights.
As the Land Cruiser returns, it joins the other off-road champions like the Jeep Wrangler, Ford Bronco and Land Rover Defender. It remains to be seen how it would fare but for sure it is a strong contender for seasoned adventurers because of its bold redesign, new off-road capabilities and rich history.
