The tools you'll need:
Two plastic trim removal tools or two flat-head screwdrivers
Socket wrench with an 8mm socket and a 10 mm socket
Short extension
Drill
Rivet tool with two rivets
1. Open the hood to access the front bumper hardware.
2. Remove six small bolts to remove the radiator cover.
3. Remove the bolts on top of the grille using a 10mm socket, there would be four of these.
4. Look for the tabs that are found on each side of the grille. Try to yank the grille and it should release the tab.
5. On the bottom of the grille, there are two more tabs. If it’s hard to take off, try using a flat head screwdriver. Just wedge it and it should release.
6. Go to the side of the bumper, take off the bolt using an 8mm socket.
7. Below that bolt, there are two clips to remove using a panel removal tool or a flat head screwdriver. Just wedge the clip in between and it should release it.
8. There is a bolt near where the fender and bumper meet. Remove that bolt to push the fender liner to the side.
9. Take off another bolt found between the fender and bumper using a 10mm socket. Do it on the other side.
10. Remove the four bolts at the bottom of the bumper using a 10mm socket.
11. Go to one side, push down the bumper and release the tabs on the side. Do the same to the other side.
12. Remove the bumper carefully, note that there are wires that are still connected.
13. Disconnect the fog lights and wire harness. Remove the bumper completely.
14. At the bottom back of the bumper, remove the bolts using the removal tool/flat head screwdriver that connects the bumper to the bumper valance.
15. Drill the hole on both ends of the bumper.
16. Push down the prongs, try to wedge something flat in there if it’s hard and remove the valance.
17. It’s time to remove the front grille starting from the side and pull up and set aside.
18. Remove the sensors. Just pull up, try a flat head if it’s hard to remove. Remember to keep the washer in place. There should be six sensors in place.
19. It’s time to work on the new bumper. Make sure it’s laid on a surface that has a little padding so it doesn’t get scratched when it’s flipped upside down.
20. Start off with the grille, line up the prongs. Support the back of the bumper while you push it down.
21. Put the lower valence, line up the holes.
22. It’s time to put back the rivets on both ends of the bumper. There is a rivet tool that you can find in any auto tool shop.
23. Put the sensors back. Make sure you hear the click to make sure it’s installed correctly.
24. It’s time to install the bumper. Put cardboard or cloth where you can put the bumper on so it doesn’t get scratched while installing the bumper.
25. Plug the harness back into the sensors.
26. Install the bumper. Make sure it lines up perfectly. Work with the middle first, then work your way to the sides.
27. Look underneath to make sure that nothing is hitting the bottom piece that’s going to cause any alignment issues.
28. Time to put back the bolts in between the bumper and fender (These are the bolts taken off in Steps 8 and 9.)
29. Push back the fender liner and put back the bolts and clips. (These are the bolt and clips in Steps 6 and 7.)
30. Put the grille on, make sure the tabs line up. Push the grille to lock.
31. Put back the bolts on top of the grille (These are the bolts on Step 3)
32. Put back the radiator cover and put back the six small bolts.
33. Secure the bottom part by putting back the bolts.
34. You’re all set, the front bumper replacement for your Dodge Ram 1500 is installed!
